I had found some interesting “all natural & homemade” facial recipes on the interweb a while back and decided to give them a try last weekend.
Had myself a Spa day while Vince was away (so not to scare him with goop all over my face, but mostly to avoid candid photos of my goopy face).
These recipes rock! They’re cheap and easy to make and they totally help tighten up my pores and even out my skin tone. Check these out:
-
HONEY FACIAL MASK / SCRUB

Ingredients: Honey, milk, extra virgin olive oil.
Portions: 1/4 cup of honey, 1 tbs e.v.o.o., touch of milk (about 1/2 tbs – do not use soy).
This mask is awesome, especially with granulated honey cause then it doubles as a scrub. (Granulated honey is crystallized honey in which some of the glucose content has spontaneously crystallized from solution. Some honeys granulate faster than others, such as raw/unprocessed honey.) If you can get your hands on natural honey, then give it a try once the sugar has started to granulate.
Apply the mixture as a mask with a brush (or your hands, but it’s messy) on your face, avoiding the sensitive skin around the eyes. Leave it on for 10 minutes and then take a hot shower (the steam will help the mask penetrate deeper into the skin) leave it on for another minute or two and then start scrubbing lightly on face and neck and then rinse off under water. Avoid using soap and make it a “makeup free” day to let your skin breathe. If you want to get out of the house be sure to apply sunscreen.
*Useful Tip: wear an old T-shirt cause it’s a little messy and place a towel like a bib around your neck when doing this so to catch whatever droops off.

AVOCADO LIGHTENING FACE MASK

Ingredients: 1 lemon (or lemon juice), 1 lime, 1 avocado, 1 cucumber.
Portions: 1/2 avocado (spoon out green flesh & chop), 1/4 lemon (about 3 tbs of juice), 1/4 lime (about 3tbs of juice), 4 to 5 slices of cucumber. Blend.
This mask is so soothing, it treats uneven skin tone and acne scaring. It works better when the avocado is nice and soft so be sure it’s ripe. Blend ingredients together and apply to face (easier with a brush). Leave it on for 10 minutes and then rinse off with cool water.
Ingredients: 1 lemon, 1 bottle of rose water.
Portions: 1/4 lemon (about 3 tbs of juice), calculate 1 part lemon juice and 3 parts rose water. Stir.
This recipe is my favorite, I use it everyday now! It totally helps tighten pores and even out skin tone. Mix it up and pour in clean & empty bottle for daily use (used hotel shampoo bottles are good). Apply with cotton ball all over face avoiding sensitive skin around the eyes and… voilà!
If you’re feeling adventurous and decide to try them out, let me know if they worked for you in the comment section below.
