Josh Barnett’s art and music has followed me all my life. He’s been regarded as somewhat of a legend by my peers in the “tracker scene” as being a genius with the music sequence software we used back then and as a precursor for ” computer art ” ( all his work is created with 3d software ).
I learned a great deal by following his work and progress. From stealing samples off his earlier tracks to understanding the idea of being exclusive ( he only used to release music either by himself or really well established labels or “scene groups” ), i felt like he was running the show.
Add to that a very successfull run on former-web giant Deviantart’s most viewed, commented and appreciated works and i had a major artistic crush.
To me, he paved the way for being an artist; not a musician, or graphic artist, or designer, just a simple artist, being able to express oneself through a variety of mediums, including digital ones.
Here’s some of my favorite illustration work he did.

A true experimentalist, he was creating music in the early 00s that was conceptually and stylistically avant-garde. He turned me to drum&bass, ambient, idm, industrial, dubstep & more way before the mainstream media did.
He recently released his latest full length ” a million drops” which you can download for free on his website, or stream throught soundcloud :
